– I am a professor at Telecommunication Systems Chair. My major fields are programming, artificial intelligence and wireless data routing. I was born in Dagestan, however since the very childhood I lived in Zelenograd. I am related to MIET not only due to its location. It so happened that my father and my brother studied here thus I was clear about the fact that I would connect my life with MIET only. My father got his Ph.D. Degree here and my brother graduated from Master Degree. Being the youngest in the family I`ve always tried to prove that I can achieve something in technical field.

– You are a graduate of Telecommunications chair, direction 11.03.02 "Infocommunication technologies and communication systems". Why did you decide to choose this program?

– I`ve always been into this area because it is quite broad thus you are free to choose your future occupation. Many chairs provide more specific field of study but Telecommunications includes various scientific fields that`s why it will be appropriate for both layout engineers and programmers. Rising from a Bachelor degree graduate to a professor I can definitely say I never regret having chosen this chair as I`ve got knowledge necessary for my career.

– What did you feel when you became a freshman? Was the training hard? Didn`t you want to quit?

– My first thoughts were the following: I got to a place of a constant competition. I was constantly facing the choice whether to get knowledge by myself or with my fellow students, I chose the second variant. Studying was really hard as I was not acquainted to the process of preparation for the exams. I`ve always tried to understand the subject and not to cram it. A grade-rating system supported me, that`s what I love my University for, as it helped me hold up well and not to give up in despair. After having worked for six months I had a desire to quit studies, as I felt the success by earning money. For a student the wages that I got were good but after a while I realized that it was far more interesting to be a scientist and a professor.

– How did university studies influence your attitude to life?

– The biggest influence on people`s mind have such subjects as philosophy, cultural and social studies, history etc. They form full consciousness of the student and prepare him to the future life and allow find answers to pivotal questions. Very often philosophy is underestimated by students and they are very sceptical about it, however after 9 years of studies (4- Bachelor, 2- Master, 3 – Postgraduate degrees) I realize that these subjects have influenced me most of all.

– Have your expectations of studying at a university been met?

– Studying at the university seemed to me extremely challenging and I always thought that one needed constantly learn extra knowledge before entering it. However the educational process is set up so that almost each subject starts from the very beginning. As the result no extra materials are needed except you presence and enthusiasm.

– Which subjects did you remember the most? Do you have favourite professors?

– I can specifically stand out two favorite professors: Prof. Alfimov (Special branches of Matanalysis) and Prof. Volkov (Information and Communication Systems Design Fundamentals). Both professors are extremely charismatic, one of them even influenced my personality formation an inspired me to get a Ph.D. degree. It was Aleksei Volkov who made me enthusiastic about science and teaching as well as brought out my full potential. When you start to think about your professional work, you immediately remember how it all started. I could never imagine that one day I would work at my university; my future seemed very different to me. Literally from the first year of my undergraduate studies, I was preparing for office work, where I`d stay alone with a computer and duties. After having worked for several years at an information security firm, I felt emptiness and lack of human communication. Seeing the opportunities that exist at the university, I began the scientific research with enthusiasm. I got the first results during my second year of postgraduate studies - I won a scholarship at the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

– What do you remember most from student life? Did you actively participate in university events?

– I remember the most my fellow students and friend with whom we spent a very fun time. During the exams we felt a sense of community with fellow students who together unite against a common “enemy” and help each other pass exams. I avoided all events except KVN ("Club of the Funny and Inventive People"), since I did not see the point of doing this at the university, in the temple of science. Nevertheless, activism at the university is very well developed, and this sometimes helps shy guys feel more confident. Our first-year mentors, who are attached to every group, left a very good impression,

– Let`s talk about your career: are you satisfied with what you are doing now?

– Starting from the third year of undergraduate studies, I got a job at ANKAD firm as a design engineer. My chair helped me with that, for what I am very grateful. Having worked at the company for 3 years, while receiving a master's degree, I came to the conclusion that office work is not my cup of tea. I found the field that was interesting to me at the chair and after entering graduate degree course I began to teach Network Programming and Routing Methods, which later became a related topic for my dissertation.

Also, I was so impressed by the trust of the chair, where, literally during the first months of work I read a number of lectures in English for foreign students from China.

– Would you recommend something to our current students?

– I advise not to waste time. Each person learns from his own mistakes, and the realization that you were warned about some mistakes in your youth and you did not pay attention to them is depressing. Since I deal with a rather complex and multifaceted subject of “Artificial Intelligence”, I have to repeat the subjects that I have failed to learn properly as an undergraduate, namely: Probability Theory, Linear Algebra, Programming and Optimization Methods. All these items are basic, and without this basic knowledge, it is simply impossible to move on.

What I teach students now - no one taught me this, all this is purely based on my experience and knowledge in this field, so the main advice is to find what you like and start investing your time and energy in it as soon as possible . After all, not those employees who have a nodding acquaintance with many fields are valued, but those who specialize in one field, but better than others.

– Plans for the future. What do you want to achieve?

– My main goal of being at the university is a PhD thesis. At the same time, I would also like to get an international PhD in partner universities.
I try not to think that far ahead, since the very fact of obtaining a degree is very complicated.Also, the university offers complete freedom of choosing a work place, even abroad, because it is very competitive with foreign educational organizations.
